Canonbury Grey

Union Chapel Artist in Residence 2011-2012, Project 3

Canonbury Grey
November 2012

Canonbury Grey, a site-specific installation located in the Canonbury Tower created an intervention within the painting, The Resurrection, Cookham by Stanley Spencer by using a mapping excercise that located paint colours of doors in the Canonbury conservation area within a footprint map of the area.

The door colours provided the colour palette and interjected a present day structure within the large-scale canvas based on the painting, The Resurrection, Cookham by Stanley Spencer. Participants living in the Canonbury conservation area were asked the following questions:

1. What colour is your front door?
2. What does this colour mean to you?
3. Where would you live in another life?
